ALDEA LA CANDELARIA, Santa Rosa, Taxisco, Guatemala

 

Aldea la Candelaria was founded in the beginning of 1900 by the family of Don Ciriaco and Doña Prudencia Alvarado Morales. Its name is based on the patroness of the comunity, "LA VIRGEN DE CANDELARIA" which was donated by travellers to
Don Adrián Morales. This event is celebrated every year on 2nd of February with a village fair. 

Candelaria extends to 3 km length and 1 km width. To the north it is limited by the Canal of Chiquimulilla, to the south by the pacific ocean. 310 families are living of tourism, traditional fishing, construction, shrimp farming in the company Mayasal S.A., culture of natural sponge (pashte),  sesame seeds, corn, mango and cashew nuts.

Touristic atractions are working as volonteer in the project el proyecto 123 in order to teach English and environmental aspects, tours on the canal, traditional fishing and scouting for sea turtles on the beach.

There is a primary, basic, and diversified school. The latter offers a batchelor in tourism, engineering and business administration. Having a university is a dream of the future.

Minimarkets and small shops offer everything you need for everyday life. Furthermore you will find health center, pharmacy, holiday bungalows, hotels, restaurants, internet cafe, computational society, barber, butchers, bakery, bakeries for tortillas, garage, gas station.

 

Candelaria offers stunning moments on the Canal of Chiquimulilla with its diversity of local and migratory birds, lizards, fish variety, shrimps, racoons, nutria and exotic wildlife. Not to forget the scout for sea turtles at the beach between July and November.
